Recorded, Live, or Written: Which Reading to Book
Book recorded for time and a replay, live to talk it through as the cards come out. Written is what you keep. How the three formats compare.

Book a recorded reading if you want a reading prepared carefully and something you can replay. Book a live reading if you want to talk it through as the cards come out. Written is the part you keep: every reading I do ends with a written synthesis, but I don't sell a text-only reading on its own.
What are the three formats, in plain terms?
A recorded reading is one I prepare privately, off camera, for a question you send. You get a private video walkthrough of the spread and a written synthesis by email.
A live reading is a one-on-one session over Zoom. The cards come out while you watch, and you can ask, interrupt and steer as we go. A written synthesis follows.
A written reading usually means a reading delivered as text only: a PDF or an email with the cards drawn and an interpretation. Plenty of readers sell exactly that (one example, another), and Etsy's rules explicitly count the text of a reading as a valid deliverable for a tarot listing. On this site, written is not a separate product. It is the synthesis that comes with every recorded and every live reading.
None of the three is the budget option. They do different jobs.
What do you actually get from a recorded reading?
You give me your question at checkout, in a sentence. That is a required field, so I have it the moment you book. If there is background you want me to have, you reply to the receipt or email me, and if anything is unclear, I ask by email before I read.
Then I prepare. I read your question before I touch the cards, usually more than once. I lay out the spread privately and sit with it until I can see what the cards are doing together, not only what each one means alone. Only then do I record the walkthrough, so the video is me explaining a reading I have already worked through.
Within three business days of receiving your question, you get two things by email: a private YouTube link to the walkthrough, and the written synthesis. You can watch the video as many times as you like, on any device, whenever suits you.
The honest case for recorded: time. Nobody is waiting on me while I think, so the reading gets the slow attention a hard question deserves. And you get it in a form you can return to when the situation moves. What a recorded tarot reading is goes deeper on all of this.
The trade-off: you can't react in the moment. The reading answers the question you sent, as you framed it.
What do you get from a live reading?
After you book, I email within two business days with times, then send the Zoom link. We meet one on one. I lay out the cards on camera and you hear my thinking as it happens.
The honest case for live: the back and forth. You can tell me what a card brings up, add context I didn't have, or chase a thread I would not have known to follow. The reading changes direction because of what you say. That real-time access is why a live session costs more than a recorded one of the same length.
Afterward, once I have reflected on the whole session, a written synthesis arrives by email. It pulls together the cards, what we talked about, and the parts worth coming back to.
The trade-off: it happens at a set time, it asks you to be present and talking, and the part you take away is the synthesis rather than a replay of the session. More on the format on the live readings page.
What about a written reading?
Here is the plain version. I don't sell a written-only reading, and I am not going to pretend the synthesis is one.
The written synthesis is the part of every reading you keep. It is short enough to re-read in a few minutes and specific enough to be useful when the situation shifts. But it is a summary of a reading you have already seen or taken part in. In a recorded reading, the video shows you the spread and how I got from the cards to what I say. In a live one, you were there for it. The synthesis sits on top of that.
That said, the honest case for a text-only reading elsewhere is real. Some people take in writing far better than video or conversation. Some want a reading they can read quietly, without a face or a voice attached. If that is you, a well-made written reading from a reader you trust is a legitimate choice, and the same tests apply as for any reader: public prices, a stated turnaround, a named person, no outcome promises. How to choose an online tarot reader walks through those.
It is also worth knowing how the big psychic platforms work. Services like Keen sell readings by call or chat and charge by the minute, at each advisor's rate. That is a different model from a reading prepared and written up for you.
How do the three compare side by side?
| Recorded | Live | Written only | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it happens | Prepared privately, off camera | One on one over Zoom | Text sent to you |
| What arrives | Private video walkthrough plus written synthesis | The session, then a written synthesis | A written reading |
| When | Within three business days of your question | At a time we agree, set by email within two business days | Depends on the reader |
| Can you steer it | Through your question and any context you send | Yes, as it happens | Usually not |
| Can you replay it | Yes, as often as you like | The synthesis, not the session | Yes |
| Offered here | Yes | Yes | No, only as the synthesis inside the other two |
Which one should you book?
A short decision list:
- You want a careful read and something to come back to. Book recorded.
- You process things by talking them through. Book live.
- Your question is tangled and you are not sure how to frame it. Live, so we can untangle it together. Or read asking a question the cards can answer first and send a sharper question for a recorded reading.
- Your schedule makes a fixed appointment hard. Recorded. You watch it whenever suits you.
- You want to see the cards and hear the reasoning, not just the conclusion. Either recorded or live; both show you the spread.
- You only want text, and video or a call is not for you. I am not the right reader for that. Look for someone who sells written readings well.
- You want someone who already knows your situation checking in regularly. Ask about ongoing readings.
If you are torn between recorded and live, ask yourself one thing: do you want time with the reading, or time with the reader?
Is one format the cheaper version of another?
No, and that framing causes bad choices. A recorded reading is not a live reading with the conversation cut out. The preparation is the product: I work through the spread without the pressure of someone watching, and the video is the finished explanation, not a first pass.
A live reading is not a recorded one with extras bolted on. It trades preparation time for interaction. Some questions get better from that trade and some don't.
Prices for both are on their pages, and what an online tarot reading costs sets them against the rest of the market.
Are online tarot readings worth it?
They are worth it when three things are true. You have a real question, not a request for a prediction. The reader is a named person with public prices and a stated turnaround. And the format fits how you take things in.
What a reading with me will not do is tell you what is going to happen. I talk about timing, tendencies and patterns, and you always keep the choice. The cards are a structured way to look at a question you already have, from angles you would not reach alone. If that is what you want, any of the formats can be worth it. If you want certainty, none of them will be, from me or anyone honest.
The FAQ covers the practical questions, and about says who you would be booking.
What stays the same whichever you choose?
The reader. Every reading on this site is mine, start to finish. The approach is the same in every format: grounded and conversational, closer to a strategic advisor than a mystical oracle. You bring the question and your own knowledge of your life; the cards organize the thinking. And whichever format you pick, you leave with something in writing.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a recorded reading a cheaper version of a live one?
- No. A recorded reading is its own format. Its advantage is time: I work through the spread privately, with no one waiting, and you get a walkthrough you can replay. Live costs more for the same length because you get real-time access and can steer the reading.
- Do you sell written-only or email-only readings?
- No. Every recorded and live reading I do comes with a written synthesis, but I don't sell the written part on its own. If text is all you want, other readers sell that, and it is a legitimate format.
- Can I ask follow-up questions after a recorded reading?
- The reading answers the question you gave at checkout, and I ask by email beforehand if anything is unclear. If you know you will want to react and dig in as the cards come out, a live reading is the better fit.
- Do I need to be on camera for a live reading?
- We meet one on one over Zoom, and the link opens in the app or a browser with no paid account. The cards are on camera so you can see them. A quiet spot and a steady connection are the only things worth arranging.
